One of the largest buildings (of its kind) in the world,
the Vehicle Assembly Building is a 52-storey, 160-meter (525 ft)
tall edifice that occupies a ground area of 3.25 hectares (8 acres) and has an internal volume
of 3,665,013 cubic meters (129,428,000 cu ft).
Designed to withstand winds of 200km/h, it has
a foundation that rests on more than 4,225 steel pilings, each 40 cm in diameter that goes to a depth of 49 m through bedrock.
